Focusing on your short game is the best way to quickly lower your handicap. The fastest way to decrease your putts per round and improve your pitch, chip and chip shots is the best way. Your best and most effective way to lower your handicap is to master your wedges. The majority of average golfers fear their wedges. They haven’t had much success with them. Fear is built up when many golf balls are lost on the green, or are “chili-dipped”, 20 yards short. These simple tips will help you to relax about golf wedges.
A Variety of Wedges
To have the best shot possible, you should always have at least three wedges. You will be able choose the best wedge to achieve the best results by having a variety of wedge options. I carry 56, 52, and 60-degree wedges. This gives me a variety of shot options, depending on how far I need to go, how long I have to play, and how many greens I have. Whatever type of wedges that you have, make sure to practice at least 70% of your practice sessions with them. You will be able to determine how each wedge reacts to the ball and you can try various lies such as fringe, rough, or sand. The short game accounts for 70% of your score.
30-Yard Pitching Shot
The 30-yard pitch was one of my favorite golf wedge tips. A 30-yard pitch is a great way to save par or make birdie. It’s also useful when there is a water hazard or sand trap in the way. First, make sure you have the right wedge. If you have green, you can use a 56 degree wedge. A 60 degree is for when you need to hit the ball into the hole. Setup begins with the ball in your stance, your feet closer together, and your weight on your left foot. You must commit to the shot. You must know where the ball will land. Pick a spot and keep in mind how far it should roll once it touches the green. You should swing in a rhythmic, consistent manner with your back swing, even if you are not following the finish. Decelerating is the most common mistake made by players. A quick back swing followed immediately by a stop when contact is made with a ball is the worst.
Green-Side Rough
Green-side rough can pose a challenge, especially if it is very deep. For rough 3-4 inches deep, a good tip is to use a sand trap shot. Open the club face with a 60-degree wedge. This will enable you to use the bounce (the back) of the club to lift the ball from the rough. With the ball in your stance, set up with your feet slightly apart from the target. Place more of your body weight on the lead foot. To get an idea of how resistant the grass is to your club head, practice several swings through it. Smoothly swing in a rhythmic manner with the length of your back swing equal to that of your follow through.
Green-Side Sand Trap
The sand trap is a classic golf tip. Sand trap shots are often more difficult than necessary for average golfers. It’s essential to use the correct wedge. Usually, a sand wedge (56) or 60-degree wedge are the best options. Your feet should be slightly open and your feet should be pointing towards the hole. Your weight should be shifted to your left foot and your right foot so that the ball is in line with your stance. Best golf wedges 2022 tips recommend that you dig your feet in the sand to get the ball under you. You won’t be able to get the ball out the sand trap if you dig too deep. Keep your swing consistent and at a steady pace. Try to hit the ball in the sand at a distance of 2-3 inches from the ball. The sand will pull the ball toward the hole. This is one of the few shots where the ball doesn’t hit the hole.
Practice, Practice
These golf wedge tips may have been helpful. You will reap the benefits if you practice these shots regularly and increase your confidence with each wedge. Your handicap will decrease.
