GET OFF TO DREAM START
TALK ABOUT IT IN OUR HORSE RACING FORUM
Both Whiteoak and Franchoek put up high-profile displays at the Cheltenham Festival - one in winning and one in defeat.
It is a massive week for Donald McCain - trainer of the former - and his tough five year old looks to get him off to a flyer following her victory in the David Nicholson Mares' event last month.
She battled back gutsily to get the better of a slightly wayward Refinement in the closing stages and I would be keen to take her on here despite her notable fortitude considering the effort she put into that race.
Franchoek was another to run his heart out in the Triumph Hurdle but could never quite get to grips with winner Celestial Halo.
It is obvious connections don't fancy taking on that rival again over two miles around here so stepping up in trip is a sensible option.
He looks short enough in the betting to regain the winning thread and the pick of the prices could well be Elusive Dream.
Prevailing conditions of decent ground and a flat track look ideal and he is worth support considering as well he is one of only two in the line-up who should be fresh having not had to go through the rigours of a race at Cheltenham.
He was well fancied on his last start at Fontwell against proven campaigners like My Way De Solzen and Lough Derg but got bogged down in the closing stages on the very gluey ground.
He was not disgraced in fourth place though and deserves the chance to show what he can do when he is not having to slog it out.
I expect him to have too much toe for Razor Royale and with Ruby Walsh back on board and the fact Paul Nicholls has saddled two of the last four winners of the race, he has to get the vote.
Group Captain is on a recovery mission and his rather stop-start effort at Cheltenham was puzzling.
He did well to make it into fifth place and connections now turn to a pair of blinkers.
