NOTTINGHAM: 2.10 Handsinthemist, 2.40 Sally's Dilemma, 3.10 Reverence, 3.40 VEENWOUDEN (NAP), 4.10 Red Wine, 4.40 Top Jaro, 5.10 Stevie Thunder.
Double: Veenwouden and Reverence.
Ed Vaughan's Veenwouden can pick up where she left off at the end of last season in the Weatherbys Bank "Further Flight" Stakes at Nottingham on Wednesday.
According to the handicapper, the four-year-old filly improved over 30lb in her final four runs last term and appears to have more scope than most in the field.
Frank Sonata, the 2006 winner, has not run for over 500 days, while Spanish Hidalgo would be considered but for John Dunlop's horses usually needing a run.
Of the others, Hawridge Prince could be given a squeak on his form from two years ago but was all wrong last campaign, with Gull Wing undoubtedly having more to offer this term.
But Vaughan's filly, who went close in the Jockey Club Cup last back-end, could develop into an Ascot Gold Cup contender this season.
Bill Turner once again proved he was the man to follow in the Brocklesby at Doncaster with Sally's Dilemma, and she is out again in the EBF Novice Stakes.
The winning margin may have only been half a length but she was value for much more than that as Tolley Dean was never very animated in the saddle.
She is up against another early-season winner in She's A Shaw Thing, who fairly bolted up on her debut.
But connections of Sally's Dilemma, whom include Mick Easterby, seemed to think they have a smart sort on their hands and she should win again.
Eric Alston's stable star Reverence makes his comeback from injury in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Conditions Stakes, a race he won in 2006.
He went on to win the Nunthorpe and Haydock Sprint Cup later in that season, but he must have cut in the ground.
Thankfully for Alston, it has been wet in the Nottingham area recently and the conditions of the race suit him down to the ground.
He was unplaced in his three starts last season, but they were all at a higher level than this and he should take some stopping as long as he is over his problems.
Alan Swinbank's Puy D'Arnac can be considered an unlucky loser on Doncaster's opening day of the Flat season but compensation awaits in the catterickbridge.co.uk Handicap at the North Yorkshire venue.
Twice a winner on the level in France, he scored first time out over hurdles for Swinbank at Catterick before finishing second to Red Wine back on the Flat last week.
The fact that rival has since won again bodes well and he can score off a favourable mark.
There will not be many options to connections of Meydan Dubai if he fails to break his maiden in the Scots Group Quiach Maiden Stakes at Lingfield.
John Best's three-year-old was only beaten a length and three-quarters in the Chesham last year but was an expensive failure twice thereafter.
He does have an official rating of 89, though, which would usually be enough for a race of this nature.
Walter Swinburn's Erlydors can win the digibet Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Kempton's evening meeting.
