MONDAY'S SELECTIONS

LINGFIELD: 2.10 Samuel Charles, 2.40 We Have A Dream, 3.10 Grand Plan, 3.40 Convivial Spirit, 4.10 MASLAHA (NAP), 4.40 Rock Peak, 5.10 Ledgerwood.

SOUTHWELL: 2.30 Wodhill Schnaps, 3.00 Copperbottomed, 3.30 Handcuff, 4.00 Azabu Juban, 4.30 Planet Paradise, 5.00 Cragganmore Creek.

WINCANTON: 1.50 Qrackers, 2.20 Marodima, 2.50 Von Galen, 3.20 Kiltimoney, 3.50 Harris Bay, 4.20 Coach Lane, 4.50 Aironageestring.

DOUBLE: Maslaha and Aironageestring.

Maslaha looked a filly of some potential when powering home at Lingfield last time and can confirm the impression when she returns to the course for the HBLB Handicap.

Trained by the masterful Michael Jarvis, this daughter of Selkirk began her career with a promising second on the all-weather surface back in February.

She duly showed the benefit of that experience when winning with a ton in hand over seven furlongs just over a fortnight ago, and does not appear to have been over-burdened by the assessor.

Horses can often flop when first stepping into the handicap ranks, but Maslaha is clearly progressing and will have a crucial fitness edge over many of her rivals.

Admittedly, she is taking on some potentially useful animals here but ought to have room for manoeuvre off a mark of 80.

We Have A Dream is an interesting contender in the Go Completely Pontin's This Summer Handicap.

The son of lightning-fast speedster Oasis Dream has inherited at least a fraction of that early dash and won three times as a juvenile.

He finished 2007 on an upward curve, triumphing on his last two forays to the track, and further progress should be forthcoming this term.

Another worth keeping a very close eye on is Hughie Morrison's Rock Peak, who goes in the Book Your Pontin's Family Holiday Now Maiden Stakes.

By Dalakhani, there is every indication he will improve at three - although he might not need to better the form of a close-up Sandown fourth to get off the mark at the first time of asking this season.

All-weather action also comes from Southwell, where Planet Paradise looks the best bet on the card in the And They're Off To Pontin's Handicap.

Derek Shaw's filly finished a most encouraging third in a better race here last time on what was her first visit to the unique circuit.

Her staying-on effort behind Loose Caboose suggests there are races to be won with her and this one seems to provide a cracking opportunity.

Wincanton stage the only jumps meeting of the day but those with the foresight to hold fire until the lucky last should go home smiling.

For champion trainer Paul Nicholls runs Aironageestring in the betfred.com Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race and this promising youngster should get the job done at the second time of asking.

He ran slightly green at Kempton at the beginning of March but flew up the home straight once the penny dropped, eventually finishing a close-up fourth.

The four-year-old has recently received a couple of positive comments from Nicholls and punters should heed the advice.
